My thoughts on Grezieux, a creative space

This place has existed since 1984, when Mrs Marie de Bengy, an artist and patron of the arts invited me to settle with my works in the lands of her castle.

Thus, a decayed and abandoned building was turned into a workshop-loft. The flooded place (marshland)was drained and dead trees gave way to sculptures just as high, from 5 up to 10 meters. After a great restoration job the creative area was brought to life.

70 major works can be seen spread throughout 3000 square meters of ground.
Some of them are still being worked on, others enjoy their place in the sun or under the shade of a tree, fitting in harmoniously with the site. Some works have rooted themselves : smaller sculptures are growing all around !

Other sculptures are so big they can not be removed. They blossom every spring, with new textures made up of coloured pigments or fluorescent perspex for the pleasure of the passers-by.

In Grezieux, during numerous summer courses, 200 students have benefited from my sculpture teaching.

It was also in Grezieux where all the major works (over 20 – see list) ordered by the Region were conceived and completed. Grezieux houses the sole sculpture park of the region.

GREZIEUX is for me a haven of peace, where inspiration takes shape and comes to life.

It is located in the intersection of telluric emission lines with the Hartmann Grid. Over the past two decades,this place has bestowed on me a powerful creative energy.

In this plain, the craving for ascendant force becomes real, it tends upwards and springs up to radiate far away.

My creations made with metal, stone, wood or composite naturally contrast with the green and luxuriant landscape like exotic flowers or night ghosts.

They cohabit with rare birds like the screech owl or like myself !

Many visitors and customers are impressed by this genuine location where Art and Life mix together. Things are in constant motion :

• Tree trunks become human figures
• scrap iron change into a robot or an explosion in space
• car parts become a rocket
• plastic bottles look like an oasis
• tubular steel frames a river or a stream !

For economic and ecological reasons, many objects are recycled and become Art.

I work like an African man (the first 8 years of my life were spent in Africa have left their mark on me) :

I use everything I find on the spot and I enter the multiple material so as to blend into the environment and communicate with the surrounding.

To be and to become, to materialize works from the mind far from utilitarian theories.

I am pleased to impulse the culture and play an active part in it.
